Funds not sanctioned for doubling works

Says there is stress on privatisation

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed dissatisfaction at the deal given to Kerala in the Railway budget.

In a statement here on Friday, it pointed out that the budget had rejected Kerala’s main demand which was for a separate railway zone.

It also did not consider the demands for doubling of lines, electrification and high range railways.

Doubling of lines

Though new trains had been announced, funds had not sanctioned for completing the doubling work which was necessary for running them.

Funds had not been sanctioned for the proposed coach factory at Kanjikode in Palakkad district, which was announced earlier. Adequate consideration had not been given for electrification and overbridges, it said.

It was unfortunate that the authorities did not consider the development of the railways in the State even when it was making huge profit continuously.

Privatisation

The stress on privatisation was in a manner that destroyed the very concept of Indian Railways, it said.
