PANAJI: Students from Delhi, Bangalore, Hyderabad and Mumbai will participate in a weeklong film appreciation course here from Saturday. The course is being organised by the Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) in association with the National Film Archives of India (NFAI) and the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. ScreeningNational and international films such as Bicycle Thief, Manoos, 36 Chowringhee Lane, Palbhar Rasta Nahin, The Great Dictator, Psycho, Jumping Over the Puddles Again, Bumika, Rashomon, Hour of Furnace,Pushpak, Saat Hindustani, Short Film About Killing will be screened. There will be discussions on the theoretical and practical part of filmmaking. A faculty comprising professionals such as Haimanti Bannerjee, Urmila Joshi, Yogesh Mathur, Sulabha Naik, Samar Nakhate, K. Jaiswal and Arti Karkhanis will deal with topics such as essence of filmmaking, art of cinematography, sound, editing, etc., through cinematographic works of critically acclaimed filmmakers. HistoryThe theoretical part also includes art and history of cinema, development of cinemas as a medium of art and communication, according to an official of the Entertainment Society of Goa.
