HASSAN: A three-member team from the Medical Council of India visited the Hassan Institute of Medical Sciences (HIMS) for a “compliance inspection” on Thursday. The members inspected HIMS on May 19 and 20 and made certain observations. Thursday’s inspection was meant to see whether the observations made had been acted upon. The team has permitted admissions to the colleges at Belgaum and Shimoga but has disallowed admissions to the ones at Raichur, Bidar, Mandya and Hassan. The college in Hassan has been running for the past four years and has an annual student strength of 100. Speaking to The Hindu after the inspection, Director of HIMS K.S. Gangadhar said the team expressed satisfaction with the compliance by the college. Dr. Gangadhar said the team would submit its report to the MCI by Friday. The MCI would in turn send its recommendations to the Union Health Ministry.
