5 police personnel suspended

Staff Reporter

ARIYALUR: Two sub-inspectors of police and three constables attached to three police stations in the district were placed under suspension on Friday for reportedly refusing to register a complaint preferred by a physically challenged rape victim.

Ariyalur SP Najmul Hoda, whom the distressed 22-year-old victim belonging to Kuruvadi near Tirumanur approached after failing to get a case registered against her 23-year-old neighbour at the Thoothur police station and the all women police stations at Ariyalur and Jayankondam, determined the facts and initiated the action.

The punished police personnel, including four women, were said to have advised the complainant to settle for a compromise.

Subsequent to the SP’s action, a case was registered at the Thoothur police station and the rape victim was admitted to the Jayankondam Government Hospital for medical examination.

The police are on the lookout for the accused, Devendran.
