Students told to strive for excellence

SHIMOGA: Chairman of Mysore Paper Mills Araga Jnanendra said on Friday that students were concerned only about scoring good marks in examinations and they had “lost the sensitivity of learning”.

He was speaking after inaugurating activities of students’ union in the Kasturba Girls Composite Junior College. He also felicitated meritorious students on the occasion.

He said that because of “faulty” education system children would grow up to become at the most literate and not educated. “As a result, it will be difficult for students to appreciate niceties of environment,” he said and suggested educational experts to ponder over the issue.

Mr. Jnanendra asked students not to be content by just securing minimum pass marks but strive to achieve excellence. He warned that students could not succeed in their endeavour unless they kept their mind and heart always open. He urged students to derive inspiration from life and teachings of great persons.

Mr. Jnanendra appreciated the efforts of the late Nagappa Shetty and Girimaji Rajgopal in developing the National Education Society, which runs a string of educational institutions including the Kasturba Girls Composite Junior College, into a premier educational institution in the State. It was the responsibility of students to make the dream of the founders of their institution a reality, he added.

Deputy principal M.L. Vani presided over the function. Secretary of the National Education Society S.V. Thimmaiah was present.
