Maintenance of 10,000 km of roads to be taken up under public-private partnership schemes 825 km of roads to be improved using funds sanctioned by the World Bank
C.M. Udasi Raichur: District in-charge and Minister of Public Works C.M. Udasi said on Friday that the Government has decided to spend Rs. 1,200 crore on upgrading highways and district roads under various schemes. Mr. Udasi told presspersons here that the Public Works Department has identified roads that need to be improved in all Assembly constituencies in the State. He said that from the Calamity Relief Fund Rs. 530 crore would be utilised to improve identified roads. Simultaneously, Rs. 230 crore has been set aside to improve roads in all the 114 backward and most backward taluks in three phases as per the recommendations of the D.M. Nanjudappa Committee. And, under the Suvarna Road Improvement Scheme, Rs. 200 crore has been set aside to improve roads across the State. Mr. Udasi said that the Government had already improved 7,000 km of roads across the State under its various schemes. Under public-private partnership scheme, it is proposed to take up maintenance work on about 10,000 km of roads. The proposal is pending approval of the State Cabinet. Once the Cabinet gives its approval to the proposal, it would be submitted to the Union Government for its approval, he said. In reply to a query, Mr. Udasi said the Government, under the World Bank assistance, proposes to improve 825 km of roads in the State. The proposal has been placed before the State Cabinet for approval and same will be implemented soon after its approval. The improvement of stretch of a road between Raichur and Deodurga and a bypass road near Raichur city has been included in this proposal, he added.
