Anxious: Contestants waiting at the counting table after the elections to the board of directors of the KDCC Bank in Madikeri on Friday. Madikeri: The Janata Dal (Secular) and Congress alliance won the election to the 11 posts of board of director of the Kodagu District Cooperative Central (KDCC) Bank, defeating the Bharatiya Janata Party by a six-five margin here on Friday. Three candidates of the Janata Dal (S)-Congress alliance were declared winners by draw of lots. The winners from Madikeri taluk were K. Harish Poovaiah, M.B. Devaiah and T.A. Kishore Kumar, all representing the BJP. Winners from Virajpet taluk were M.A. Ramesh, the incumbent president of the bank; A.S. Appaiah and Lava Kushalappa, all from the Janata Dal (S)-Congress group. In Somwarpet taluk, Mani Uthappa of the BJP was the winner. In the draw of lots, B.K. Chinnappa and S.B. Bharath Kumar, both belonging to the Janata Dal (S)-Congress group emerged as winners. Prema Somaiah, the alliance candidate, was declared winner through a lottery after she and M.K. Somaiah of the BJP got 10 votes each from the urban cooperative bank and credit cooperative bank category. In the other cooperative societies category, Bose Devaiah of the BJP got the better of his rival K.M. Somaiah by winning by a single vote. Mr. Devaiah won 31-30. Election of the president and vice-president of the board of the bank will take place later in which the Deputy Registrar of Cooperative Societies and the nominee to the Apex Cooperative Bank from the KDCC Bank will have powers to vote. As many as 22 candidates were in the fray on Friday and there were 166 voters.
