Gulbarga
Sheer neglect: The streets of Shanbaz Colony in Rehmath Nagar in the heart of Gulbarga city speak volumes on the apathy of the officials concerned. Gulbarga: Thickly populated Rehmath Nagar and its surrounding areas in the heart of Gulbarga city are a perfect example of total neglect by the elected representatives and the city corporation officials. These areas do not have proper roads, drains or streetlights. Almost all roads in Rehmath Nagar adjoining the Old Jewargi Road passing through the Railway underpass are badly damaged and full of potholes. Maintenance work has not been taken up in these places for more than a decade now. In the absence of stormwater drains, when it rains these roads are flooded making it impossible for vehicles to ply. The slush on these roads is a breeding ground for mosquitoes. Residents’ request to authorities concerned to asphalt these roads has fallen on deaf ears. During the monsoon, some of the houses in Rehmath Nagar become islands with all the approach roads flooded with rainwater and the slippery black cotton soil on the roads only add to the woes of the residents creating problems for the movement of vehicles. Besides, most streetlights on these roads need to be replaced. According to residents Syed Ghouse, Syed Khalimudin and Mohammad Ismail, they have been running from pillar to post pleading with authorities to asphalt roads, provide streetlights and construct stormwater drains.
