Computer training for rural youth

For better jobs: Rural youth attending a free computer-training programme organised by MALCO in Mettur recently. —

METTUR: The Madras Aluminium Company (Malco) Limited, a group company of Vedanta Resources Plc., has launched a free computer training programme for the benefit of rural youth as a part of its corporate social responsibility initiatives in Mettur block recently.

Organisers

The programme is conducted in association with the Vedanta Foundation.

Youths belonging to poor families, who have completed Standard X, will be selected for computer courses offered free of cost under the programme.

Courses

The following three courses will be offered: Diploma in Computer Application, Diploma in Financial Accounting and Diploma in Desktop Publishing.

The duration of each course is three months. After successful completion of the training, the candidate will be presented with certificates.

They will also be assisted to get suitable jobs.

Mettur Tahsildar Sankarakumarasamy inaugurated the programme in the presence of Head - Operations Tarundeep Arora; Head – Human Resources, Suresh Bose; Assistant General Manager Kandaswamy; Vedanta Foundation Assistant Regional Manager Roshan John; Malco Vidyalaya School Principal Ganapathi Raman and senior officials.

First batch

The first batch will cover 60 students. Malco has planned to provide training to 200 youths in the rural areas in the current year.

The firm is also running 12 free tuition centres in the surrounding villages.
