PAY DUE: Employees of primary agriculture and rural development banks observing a fast in Pudukottai on Friday.
PUDUKOTTAI: Members of the Pudukottai District Primary Agriculture and Rural Development Bank Employees’ Association staged a fast at Thilagar Thidal here on Friday, urging the State Government to reimburse the outstanding funds towards waiver of farm loans together with penal interest, further interest and other charges.
Prolonged delay in the reimbursement of the funds has resulted in non-payment of salary to the employees, they said.
Speaking on the occasion, State secretary of the Association R. Ramadurai said that the government had reimbursed, in three phases, just Rs.20 crore against the waived sum of Rs.33.16 crore. The reimbursement did not include penal interest, further interest and other charges.
Pointing out that the banks relied on the re-imbursement of the farm loans for disbursement of salary to the employees, he said that many banks were financially unsound to pay their staff.
The State-level stir was aimed at drawing the government’s attention to the plight of the employees of these banks, he added.
District president of Pudukottai District Primary and Agricultural Cooperative Credit Societies A. Ramaiah said that the employees also urged the government to clear the provident fund and gratuity dues of the retired employees.
General secretary of Pudukottai District Bank Employees’ Association K. N. Rajendran spoke.
