Shimla: All panchayats in Himachal Pradesh will be connected by motorable roads by the end of this year, state Public Works Department Minister Gulab Singh Thakur said here on Friday. A total of 1,334 km of roads have been completed in the past 18 months and the target is to construct 2,910 km new roads in the current financial year, Mr. Thakur told reporters. The department has decided that in every division at least one road would be made cemented and emphasis would be given on drainage system to minimise damage in the rainy season, he said. The minister added that all villages with a population of 250 would would be linked by roads by 2012.
