Priority to Kochi projects

The renovation of the sewerage system of Kochi is being considered.


KOCHI: The State government has given priority to addressing the infrastructure requirements of Kochi, the government has informed the State Assembly.

The government reply came following a call attention motion moved by K. Babu, MLA, a communication from the legislator said.

A comprehensive drinking water project would be implemented in Kochi with the support of the Jawaharlal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission. Steps for re-tendering the project for an intake well-cum-pump house have been taken. The preparation of the estimate for the construction of the water storage tanks at Chellanam and Kumbalam and other related works are under way.

The renovation of the sewerage system of Kochi and the work of a new sewerage project costing Rs. 74.81 crore are also in the pipeline. The Public Works Department has initiated steps for resuming the work on the Railway overbridge at Edapally. The corporation will take over the Thamannam-Pullepady road project.

The government proposes to entrust the task of constructing the Edapally, Palarivattom, Vytilla, and Kundannor flyovers to the National Highways Authority of India.
