Complaints against “processing fee”
Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI: The Delhi University administration has received some complaints from students who alleged that S.G.T.B. Khalsa College was deducting Rs.1,000 from the total admission fee of each student while refunding it at the time of withdrawal.
“A student complained to us that when he went to S.G.T.B. Khalsa College for withdrawal of his admission, the authorities told him that they would return his documents and the college fee only after deducting Rs.1,000. Why should a student be charged so much for being admitted to a college for barely a couple of days?” asked a University official.
When contacted, college Principal Jaswinder Singh said the college was allowed to deduct a “processing fee”.
“There is a communication from the University Grants Commission in this regard. It says that we can deduct a processing fee which can’t be more than Rs.1,000,” he said.
However, some other college Principals did not agree over this.
“We make no deduction from the student’s fee at the time of withdrawal. As the cut-off lists are still being announced and the admission process is currently on, students are free to move from one college to another,” said Dyal Singh College Principal Inder Bakshi.
