Finance Minister’s reply to budget debate on July 13
Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI: The Finance Minister will reply on July 13 to the debate on the Union budget, which will be presented on July 6. This was decided at a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee of the Lok Sabha.
The Committee has allotted 10 hours for the debate on the Railway budget. The reply will most likely be on July 8, following a debate spread over July 7 and 8. The Union budget debate will start on July 9 and continue through July 10 and 13.
It has also been decided that the demands for grants for four-five Ministries will be discussed in detail, while the rest will be guillotined before the Finance Bill is adopted.
The government has already asked the non-ruling parties to suggest which Ministries’ grants should be discussed in detail. “We will take this up over the next few days and give our suggestion at the next meeting of the BAC scheduled for July 8,” BJP deputy leader in the Lok Sabha Sushma Swaraj told reporters on Thursday.
The government has said that it wants the entire budget exercise completed a few days ahead of July 31, when the vote-on-account taken ahead of the Lok Sabha elections will expire.
