Traffic awareness plan launched

A 24-hour helpline number for the public to report complaints about traffic was released at the function.


KOCHI: Actor Suresh Gopi on Thursday inaugurated the special traffic awareness programme launched by the Ernakulam Rural Police at the Municipal Town Hall, Aluva, in the presence of film stars and celebrities.

The programme titled ‘Each One Teach One’ is about spreading the traffic messages at personal levels, with one person passing on the message to another.

The keynote address was given by Smitha Gopi, Aluva Municipal chairperson.

A 24-hour helpline number for the public to report complaints about traffic was released at the function.

The SIM card for the number 9544000100 was handed over by Sreenivas Balaji, marketing head of Idea Cellular to actor Anoop Menon, who handed it over to T. Vikram, Superintendent of Police, Ernakulam Rural.

Pledge read out

Actor Priyanka read out the traffic pledge designed for the programme and the logo of the campaign was launched by actors Biju Menon, Harisri Ashokan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma and cricketer Sreesanth.

The Lions Club, Aluva, provided free insurance cover to 40 autorickshaw drivers of Aluva railway station stand and Mr. Sreesanth released a CD on traffic awareness.

Vinson M. Paul, Inspector General of Police, Ernakulam Range, presided and Mr. Vikram explained the concept of the project.

Representatives of 115 Road Safety Clubs formed in the various schools of the district attended the programme along with representatives of residents’ associations, NGOs like Rotary and Lions Clubs, and trade union

leaders.

A traffic parade showcasing 29 different uniforms of the Kerala Police and a skit on the theme of traffic were presented after the inaugural session. The skit introduced the Kerala Police Traffic Mascot Pappu the zebra.
