KOCHI: In the 2008-09 financial year Rs. 2.77 crore was distributed as unemployment wages through various local self-government bodies in the district, said T.K. Sujatha, district employment officer. The number of beneficiaries who received the wages stood at 17,470. In a significant move, online facility had been launched in the district employment exchange to speed up registration of fresh job applicants and for renewal of registration. This ensures that services were delivered to the beneficiaries without waiting for long, Ms. Sujatha said. Digitalisation of registration documents and data entry verification to facilitate online registration was completed last March itself. In the last three years, 9,378 job aspirants had registered with the employment exchange. Out of 7,313 candidates nominated by the exchange for various vacancies, 1,361 received posting, Ms. Sujatha said.
