Swine flu cases go up to 24
Staff Reporter
Bangalore: Six more persons tested positive for H1N1 virus on Thursday taking the number of confirmed cases in the city to 24.
The six cases include a two-year-old baby and a nine-year-old girl, whose mother and elder sister tested positive two days ago. Two close contacts (not passengers) of the affected persons have tested positive.
While five of these have been quarantined at the Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Chest Diseases (RGICD), one has been admitted at Lakeside Hospital, institute director Shashidhar Buggi said.
“Today’s results have shown that the flu is spreading from person to person as two of the confirmed cases are not passengers. These persons are the relatives of a family of four who had arrived from New Jersey on June 25. But they had come to the institute for tests on June 30,” Dr. Buggi said.
As many as 20 who reported voluntarily for tests were screened on Thursday and 15 throat and nasal swabs were sent to the National Institute of Virology in Pune.
