NEW DELHI: In order to review the response readiness and other procedures in the event of an aircraft crash at Delhi airport premises, Delhi International Airport Limited carried out a full-scale crash simulation exercise here on Thursday. Multiple agencies stationed at the airport such as the Directorate-General of Civil Aviation, Air Traffic Controllers, airlines, the Central Industrial Security Force, Delhi Police, Delhi Fire Services and various hospitals were involved in the mega-exercise. The exercise covered a scenario which involved simulating an incoming flight that crashes during landing. The news of the simulated crash was announced to the agencies concerned over a specially designated radio frequency. The airport fire service rescue vehicles then rushed to the site along with ambulances to carry out the rescue simulations. The scenario assumed that there would be critically injured passengers, those with minor injuries, the uninjured and also some passengers who succumbed during the incident. The airport medical staff prioritised the injured based on the extent of their injuries and arranged for medical care. Meanwhile, fire tenders of the Delhi Fire Service and ambulances from various hospitals also reported to the site to assist in the rescue operations. “The exercise was a success with the designated agencies responding and performing their roles within the set parameters. Further, we will organise a review session with the participants where a detailed analysis of all parameters would be done,” said a DIAL spokesperson.
