Singapore: Rohit Kumar clinched gold in the boys’ javelin throw as India added three more medals to its kitty on the third day of the inaugural Asian Youth Games, here on Thursday. After making an impressive start by bagging three medals, including a gold on the first day, the Indians failed to add to their tally on Wednesday. However, things turned for the better on Thursday when Rohit hurled the javelin for a personal best of 74.60 metres. Selwyn Jebaraj clocked 54.41 seconds in the boys’ 400m hurdles to bag the silver while China’s Chen Dong (53.19s) took the gold in the category. Meanwhile, in girls’ 400m hurdles, Sushma Mekala clinched bronze with a timing of 1:03.44s. Cheng Yafan (1:02.15 sec) of China won gold while L.B. Dinh of Vietnam won the silver. Indian paddlers shrugged off their 0-3 defeat to Korea to thump Uzbekistan by an identical scoreline and qualified for the quarterfinals in the mixed team championship. — PTI
