Srinivasa Rao defeated Guntur’s P. Srinivasa Rao 20-6, 12-5 to lift the first Andhra major ranking carrom title at the Official Club, Kavali, according to information reaching here on Thursday. The results: Final: G.Ch. Srinivasa Rao (Vizag) bt P. Srinivasa Rao (Gun) 20-6, 12-5. Semifinals: G.Ch. Srinivasa Rao bt S. Srinivasalu (Kavali) 12-0, 12-7; P. Srinivasa Rao bt A. Gajendra (Nel) 8-7, 7-5. North beats SouthAt Visakhapatnam, North Zone beat South Zone by seven runs in the inaugural round-robin match of the ACA under-19 inter-zone N. Venkata Rao Trophy (one-dayers) tournament here on Thursday. The scores: North Zone 120 for six in 25 overs (Ch. Rajesh Yadav 45, S.H. Srinivas 26, C. Kabaddi campThe sub-junior girls’ National kabaddi coaching camp, being conducted by the Sports Authority of India’s STC here, was formally inaugurated by Secretary of Visakhapatnam Port Trust D. Naresh Kumar at the Port stadium here on Thursday. Twenty-six girls spotted by the Amateur Kabaddi Federation of India during the sub-junior National championships held in Bangalore recently were selected for the one-month long camp. A. Elpes Rani and Ch. Jayashree are conducting the camp. Taekwondo NationalsThe AP Taekwondo Association will organise the 24th sub-junior National championships for under-14 boys and girls at the Swarna Bharati indoor stadium here from July 9 to 12. Six hundred competitors from 28 States and organisations will participate in the championships, the APTA President, T. Harsha Vardhana Prasad, and the organising secretary and chairman of the technical committee of APTA, P. Atchuta Reddy, informed a press conference here on Thursday. The competitions would be in 12 weight categories, from super fin to super heavy. In the last championships held in Lucknow, Manipur and Maharashtra were winner and runner-up in the boys’ and girls’ team events. AP won two gold medals, three silvers and four bronze medals.
