Pressing demands: Anganwadi workers being arrested in Tirunelveli on Thursday. TIRUNELVELI: Over 1,200 anganwadi workers were arrested here on Thursday when they attempted to block traffic near Tirunelveli Railway Junction. Sporting black sarees, the protestors raised slogans that they should be given pension and time-scale, “as promised during the just concluded Parliamentary elections”. When they tried to block traffic, the police arrested 1,208 protestors and were taken to a marriage hall. They were released in the evening. NagercoilThe police arrested 500 anganwadi workers, most of them wearing black sarees, here on Thursday when they tried to block road demanding the Government to find out an early solution to their multi-point charter of demands, including regularisation of their jobs, salary on a par with Central Government employees, etc. The district president of Anganwdi Workers’ Association, Parvathy, led the agitation. State vice-chairperson of CITU Indira inaugurated the agitation.
