Rs. 20.11 crore earmarked for primary and secondary schools Silt to be removed from 229 tanks in 105 villages under the action plan GADAG: The action plan for implementing works estimated at Rs. 43.50 crore for 2009-10 was approved in a meeting at the Gadag Zilla Panchayat here on Thursday. The meeting was chaired by the in-charge president of the Gadag Zilla Panchayat, Hanumanthappa Naikar. In the action plan, Rs. 20.11 crore had been earmarked for primary and secondary schools, Rs. 6.95 crore for health and family welfare, Rs. 3.03 crore for medical sciences and community medicine and Rs. 2.13 crore for construction of roads and bridges. Higher outlayChief Executive Officer of zilla panchayat B.F. Patil told the meeting that a Rs. 17.21-crore action plan and Rs. 25.97-crore action plan had to be approved by the taluk panchayats and gram panchayats in the district respectively. That would mean a Rs. 86.69-crore action plan for the district in 2009-10, he said. The meeting approved implementation of works that were taken up under the action plan for 2008-09. The meeting discussed at length the availability of fertilisers and seeds in the district, medicines for the cattle and facilities at veterinary hospitals, progress of construction works of school buildings and midday meal scheme. Key componentMr. Patil told the meeting that under the action plan cleaning of 229 tanks in 105 villages had been included so far and requested the elected representatives to provide information on the left out tanks in the district. Apart from the zilla panchayat members, presidents of taluk panchayats and district-level officials participated in the meeting. Zilla panchayat deputy secretary B.M. Sridhar welcomed the gathering.
