Residents pour out woes at meeting

Staff Reporter

Bangalore: Problems of residents and businessmen of Chickpet (ward number 28) including poor lighting on roads, parking issues, irregular water supply, drainage, were redressed at a Janaspandana programme organised by Dinesh Gundu Rao, Gandhinagar MLA, here on Thursday.

One of the issues that was raised at the meeting was with regard to the traffic problems caused by the Sunday Bazaar. A resident urged the MLA to direct the authorities concerned to ban the bazaar.

“Even though the police had decided to close down the bazaar, it continues to be held. Vendors take over the footpath and vehicular movement in the area is affected. This causes problems to shop owners and residents alike,” he said.

Another resident of Chowdeshwari Layout, near Chickpet, complained that her locality had not been receiving water supply for the past six months. “We have complained several times to the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board. They promise us saying that they will look into the matter but do nothing,” she said.

The MLA directed the BWSSB officials to look into the matter and ensure that the locality gets regular water supply. An official said that water supply had been erratic, as the board was laying a new pipeline. He said that water supply to the locality would begin within a week.

A shop owner from B.V.K. Iyengar Road complained about the poor quality of roads, problems of parking and poor lighting. “Most of the times, the officials do not switch on the streetlights on time. The lack of parking space on the road has affected our business,” he said.

Mr. Dinesh Gundu Rao promised to look into the issues raised and discuss them with the officials concerned.
