Minister takes stock of the situation in the medical college and hospital

CUTTACK: State Health Minister Prasanna Acharya on Thursday announced that a master plan for infrastructural improvement of SCB Medical College and Hospital -- Orissa’s premier teaching hospital -- would be in place in three months.

The Minister said this after reviewing the problems of the hospital at a high-level meeting held on the day. Besides the Minister, Rajya Sabha member Pyari Mohan Mohapatra, School and Mass Education Minister Pratap Jena, local legislators, director of state medical education and teaching (DMET), health secretary, medical college principal and the hospital superintendent were present at the review meeting.

The Minister said the teaching hospital dogged with several infrastructural shortcomings, including drainage and sanitation. “We would prepare the master plan soon and in the month of October we would again review the situation and take steps to give shape to the master plan,” Mr. Acharya, who visited the hospital for the first time after assuming the health portfolio, said. He also pointed out that the government was contemplating to table a bill on the proposed health university in the Assembly soon. It may be mentioned here that the Finance Department accepted the feasibility report.
