BHUBANESWAR: The Orissa government has moved close to fulfil its commitments made towards establishment of infrastructure for All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) at Bhubaneswar. Taking a review meeting on progress of AIIMS which is to be located at Sijua on the outskirt of capital city, State Health Secretary Anu Garg said Rs. 1.35 crore was deposited with Orissa Power Transmission Corporation Limited (OPTCL) for shifting of overhead high tension electric line. Electric lineThe electric line, which was passing through the proposed campus of AIIMS, posed a danger to construction activities. Contractors for shifting high tension line have been finalised and the work will begin soon. At present works for construction of eight blocks including type-2, type-3 quarters and bungalow for AIIMS director have been started and hostel for under-graduate student will be started. According to State Health Department sources, the State government has made commitment to provide road connectivity, water connection and land free of cost for campus of AIIMS in Bhubaneswar. While 100-acre land has been registered in the name of Union Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, pipelines for water supply have been laid and electricity connection have also been facilitated. Permission of National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has been sought to take water supply line beneath the NH-5 at Dumduma. Road connectivityAs far as road connectivity is concerned, the State government was to lay 2150 metre-long and 300-width blacktop road to the campus. However, since a patch of private land was coming in between, the work got slowed down. “Attention of revenue department has been drawn in this regard. The land will soon be acquired for completion of road,” a senior health department official said. Establishment of six such institutions was announced under Prime Minister’s Swasthya Surakshya Yojna (PMSSY) at Risikesh, Jodhpur, Patna, Bhubaneswar, Bhopal and Jaipur. Among others General Manager of OPTCL, project director of HSCC Ltd, which has been entrusted to execute the project and representatives of Khurda district administration were present at the review meeting. State government sources said it was now duty of Union Health and Family Welfare to release funds immediately for expeditious completion of much-hyped project.
