Play ball, kickstart preservation
Staff Reporter
BANGALORE: This monsoon, children can play football and learn about rainwater harvesting side by side. Malhar 2009, a sports and environmental education festival, organised by Global Citizens for Sustainable Development (GCSD) in collaboration with Jo’s Events, plans to teach children about rainwater harvesting as well as build up the spirit of continuous self-improvement through sports.
“This will be a platform for schoolchildren to showcase their talent in football and acquire knowledge on rainwater harvesting,” said Anugraha John of GCSD.
The programme is two-pronged. One aspect involves GCSD making presentations in schools to show children the roll they can play in rainwater harvesting projects. The second aspect involves football matches being played among students of the schools that have registered. It will give GCSD an opportunity to demonstrate how rainwater harvesting is carried out on the same ground that the game is played. The programme will begin with football matches being played on July 31 and August 1.
