Special Correspondent

CHENNAI: The Centre had sanctioned Rs.44.08 crore to the State under the Coastal Security Scheme and orders have been issued to set up 12 coastal police stations, 12 outstations and 40 check posts, Chief Minister M. Karunanidhi said on Wednesday.

Replying to a question in the Assembly, he said the construction of 12 coastal police stations were over and four of them were functioning from December 2008.

Work on two outstations and four check posts had also been completed.

The Centre would provide each coastal station with a 12-tonne mechanised boat and a five-tonne mechanised boat. Mr. Karunanidhi said police personnel in these stations were being given special training.
