HYDERABAD: Police on Tuesday unravelled the mystery behind the beheaded body found in the deep forest of Dhulapally of Petbasheerabad on June 13 with the arrest of two persons. The accused, A. Singa Raju and A. Pandu Rangadu, confessed to the killing of K. Subba Raju, 51, but the police could not trace his head which they claimed to have dumped in a ‘nala’. The duo first smothered the victim to death and dumped the body in the forest after stuffing it in a gunny bag, covering it with tree branches and leaves. As heavy rain with strong winds lashed the area on that day, they got worried that the leaves and tree branches would get scattered and the victim’s identity would be known. “The next night, they went to the spot carrying a hacksaw blade, cut off his head and dumped it in a nala putting it in a cover,” the Alwal ACP, Prabhakar Reddy, told reporters. Washed away?Police believe that the head may have been washed away in the nala following the rain. But they recovered a cover with strands of hair in it believed to be belonging to the victim. DNA testsThe hair and the blood samples of the victim’s family members were sent to DNA fingerprinting tests to ascertain his identity. Subba Raju used to work as a carpenter in a private company where Singa Raju was a labour contractor. The contractor was neck deep in debts and decided to eliminate the carpenter on learning that the latter had Rs. 3 lakh bank balance.
