Expert sees demand for researchers
Staff Reporter
HYDERABAD: Leading science and technological institutions across the world are keen to partner with Indian research organisations and this should be leveraged to nurture young scientific pool, said Principal Scientific Adviser to Government of India R. Chidambaram.
Talking to the media after the inauguration of Advanced Centre of Research on High Energy Materials (ACRHEM) at University of Hyderabad (UoH) on Wednesday, he forecast that demand for researchers in basic science would increase in years to come.
The national laboratories and quite a few universities are excelling in research, he informed.
“In terms of both the number of papers produced and their ‘Impact Factor’, a measure of citations to the papers, the output of Indian scientists has increased remarkably in past few years,” he explained. Dr. Chidambaram felt the global economic slowdown is leading to many youngsters opting to join research organisations.
