AIR, DD employees seek promotions

Staff Reporter

‘Give promotions according to work experience’

‘Many occupying senior posts despite lesser experience’

HYDERABAD: To put forth their long-pending demand that they be promoted according to work experience, direct recruit programme officers working with public service broadcasters, All India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) will stage a peaceful ‘satyagraha’ at stations throughout the State on Thursday. The protest is intended to coincide with the budget session of Parliament.

Speaking to presspersons here on Wednesday, south zone coordinator of Association of UPSC Recruited Programme Officers of All India Radio and Doordarshan (AUPO) P. Raja Rao expressed anguish over the inordinate delay in promoting cadre officers to higher posts despite the courts ruling in their favour.

He pointed out that many of them were holding the same posts for the last 20 to 25 years and were never promoted since they joined the organisations.

“Whereas a large number of persons who were recruited on a contract basis were not just regularised but given multiple promotions and occupy senior positions despite lesser work experience,” he said.

Mr. Rao said 844 vacancies existed all over the country in AIR and Doordarshan, as on February 2007.
