Tricksters decamp with jewellery
Special Correspondent
CHENNAI: Two men posing as Income Tax officials allegedly took away about 46 sovereigns of ornaments and some diamond jewellery from a house in Kumaran Nagar on Wednesday.
According to police sources, the accused, who came on a motorcycle, entered the house of Seetharaman (86) in Raghava Reddy Colony. They made other members of the family believe that they were IT officials who had come to conduct a search based on a complaint. When a locker was opened, they took the valuables and asked Mr. Seetharaman’s son, S. Nagaraj (58), to collect the jewellery from the office later.
It was only after the accused left the family realised that they were cheated. The Kumaran Nagar police are investigating.
