Fallout of alleged attack by Manda Jagannath, MP, against manager of Uppunuthala branch

Seeking justice: Staff members of AP Grameena Vikas Bank take out a protest rally in Mahabubnagar on Wednesday.

MAHABUBNAGAR: Business transactions of the AP Grameena Vikas Bank came to a halt across the district, including the district headquarters, on Wednesday. A strike was undertaken by the employees and officers of the bank in protest against the alleged attack by Nagarkurnool MP Manda Jagannath on the manager of Uppunuthala branch of the bank on Monday.

In response to the protest call given by the AP Grameena Vikas Bank Employees Association, all the employees of the bank staged a dharna for some time in front of the main branch here. They later took out a protest rally to the district Collectorate.

Memo submitted

The protestors submitted a memorandum to district Collector K. Damayanthi urging her to initiate action against the MP.

Earlier, addressing the agitating employees at the dharna camp, All-India Bank Employees Association general secretary Venkatesh Reddy and State president Ravikanth demanded an ‘unconditional apology’ from the MP and sought his resignation from the Lok Sabha. They also urged Lok Sabha Speaker Meira Kumar to order an inquiry into the incident.

Threat issued

The bankers said that release of kharif loans through the Grameena Vikas Bank branches would be stopped and work would come to a standstill until action was initiated against the MP. Members of AIBOC, Andhra Bank Employees Association, SBI Employees Association, LIC Employees Association and CITU expressed solidarity with the agitating bank employees.
