11-year-old run over

Staff Reporter

HYDERABAD: A learner driving a Tata Sumo ran over an 11-year-old student as he stopped by roadside to collect books and water bottle that slipped from his school bag at Borabanda on Wednesday.

Angry locals caught hold of the learner driver Abdul Raheem and his brother-in-law Issaq accompanying him to teach driving and beat up them severely. But the duo managed to escape as the mob attacked the Sumo breaking its windscreens and window panes. Matin, a resident of local Sanjaynagar, was on the way to St. Joseph’s School on foot along with his brothers Aziz and Javed when the rashly-driven Sumo came from NRR Puram Colony around 8.30 a.m. The boy collected the books and bottle, came to a side and was busy putting them back into the bag when the Sumo hit him at high speed. It ran over the boy and came to halt after grazing past the wall of a house abutting the road. Raheem began to learn driving few days ago and went to Issaq’s house requesting him to accompany him.

“They gave conflicting versions initially but finally said Raheem lost control of the vehicle when he slammed on the accelerator instead of brakes in confusion,” the S.R. Nagar Sub-Inspector Sudarshan said. atin’s parents, Md. Ramzan and Zarina Begum, wept inconsolably on seeing their son’s mutilated body.

This is the second consecutive death of a school student in the city. On Tuesday, an eighth standard student was crushed to death by a private school bus at Tappachabutra.
