BANGALORE: A 50-year-old man died when a Gulmohar tree fell on him near Govindarajanagar playground on Wednesday as the work on constructing a compound wall for the ground had loosened the soil around the root of the tree. The victim has been identified as Sadashivaiah, a resident of Govindarajnagar. The victim was walking on the pavement when the tree fell on him. Soil loosenedAccording to the Vijayanagar police, the BBMP had entrusted the work of constructing compound wall for the playground to a contractor and the men employed were digging trenches using an earthmover and this work had loosened the soil. Meanwhile, BBMP officials admitted that the work had destabilised the Gulmohar tree. However, they said the contractor could not be held responsible for the death. The BBMP announced a compensation of Rs 1lakh to be given to the family of the victim. Killed in accidentNemichand (34), a salesman from Nagaratpet, riding a pillion on a motorcycle was killed after being hit by another motorcycle on H. Siddaiah Road on Tuesday night. Nemichand was riding along with his friend Suresh P. Jain. Nemichand was taken to a private hospital where he died. The Wilson Garden traffic police have registered a case.
