OU collects enhanced hostel deposit

Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: Growing gap between the scholarship amount sanctioned to students and their actual mess bills apart from audit objections by the State Audit Department are the reasons for the enhanced hostel deposit being collected by the Osmania University from the fresh students.

The university from this year is collecting Rs. 7,000 from boys who don’t get scholarships and Rs. 3,500 from girl students. Similarly, Rs. 4,000 is being collected from boys who are eligible for scholarships and Rs. 2,000 from girl students.

In a statement here, the OU Registrar said that the enhancement was necessitated to reduce the cumulative financial burden on the hostel students at the end of semester and academic year.

“The deficit is getting piled up over the months and becoming a burden on the students which they cannot clear at one time,” he said. He appealed to the students and parents to appreciate the rationale behind the present stand and extend their cooperation.
