Tax filing still offline

BANGALORE: The new, much-awaited online tax filing system of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagra Palike on the website www.bmponline.org did not begin on July 1 as anticipated. According to BBMP officials, the site will be up and running by Thursday afternoon.

U.A. Vasanth Rao, BBMP Deputy Commissioner (Resources), said since this was the first attempt of the Palike to collect property tax online and the number of collections was large, some last minute security measures were being checked on the website.

However, the collection of property tax at the various help centres set up by the BBMP began on Wednesday.
