Medicinal plants to be raised in 84 hectares

TIRUCHI: Medicinal plants will be raised in about 84 hectares in the district under the National Mission on Medicinal Plants (NMMP), implemented through the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Development Board.

The district has been allotted Rs.37.84 lakh under the credit-linked back-ended subsidy programme. Under the project, farmers could avail subsidy ranging from 20 to 75 per cent of the cultivation cost.

The project would be implemented in Vaiyapatti, Thathiyengarpet, Thottiyam, Thuraiyur and Uppilliyapuram taluks in the first phase. Interested farmers could approach the department officials for availing the subsidy, Collector T.Soundiah said in a release.
