Mixed reaction to fuel hike

Staff reporter

NEW DELHI: The Union Government’s decision to raise petrol and diesel prices by Rs.4 and Rs.2 per litre respectively on Wednesday evoked a mixed reaction from the Capital’s citizens.

A surprised Makepeace Sithlou who drives to work said: “I am certainly not happy. Why lower luxury tax in the Delhi budget and hike the price of fuel?”

Abhinav Verma, a student, said: “This is a good step and reaffirms the commitment of the Government to a green economy. It will encourage people to use the public transport.”

Gurgaon resident Palak Chauhan agreed: “People will use public transport more often. Also the Government has already given people a great deal of subsidies. But the Government must use the extra revenue to improve the public transport.”
