Haj: State seeks higher quota

Hyderabad: Selected Haj pilgrims can apply for the International passport up to July 15 at the special counter set up at Haj House here. There will be no further extension of this facility, said Minorities Welfare Minister Mohd. Ahmadulla Syed.
He told presspersons on Wednesday that State Haj Committee had to submit passports of all pilgrims to the Central Haj Committee, Mumbai by July 31. So far, 1256 passports of pilgrims had been forwarded to Mumbai. He said of the 6222 pilgrims selected through draw of lots, 92 had cancelled their applications. Till date, 5565 pilgrims had submitted their applications, said Syed. He said the Chief Minister had written to the Centre for additional 2,500 seats. Elderly persons would be given preference in the additional quota, if it comes. The Minister announced extension of last date for submitting applications for availing loan from Minorities Finance Corporation up to July 10.
