Be a ‘master’ in visual communication

VIJAYAWADA: Andhra Loyola College is launching a post-graduation course in visual communication from 2009-10 academic year. Graduates of any discipline are eligible to apply for the two-year M.Sc. Visual Communication course, which is recognised by the Andhra Pradesh State Council of Higher Education.

The college has developed the required infrastructure like acoustic television studio, audio and video editing suite, digital photo studio, animation studio, online mixing suite and high-definition video cameras to conduct the course, which will have an intake of 30 students.

Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, college principal A. Francis Xaiver said ALC was the first college in the State to introduce a masters degree in visual communication, whereas the Loyola College in Chennai took the lead in introducing the course in South India.

“Because of the launch of various satellite channels both at the national and the State levels, there is a great demand for qualitative manpower. Similarly, there are openings in the cinema industry too. We are introducing this job-oriented course for the benefit of students from this region,” he said.

Recalling that the college introduced B.Sc. in Visual Communication four years ago, Fr. Xaiver said 60 seats were now available in the undergraduate course.

Students passing Intermediate with any group were eligible for the degree course. Admissions for both degree and PG courses would be conducted through an aptitude test.

The principal said that the college would be introducing diploma courses in Television Production, Audiography and Animation and Visual Effects, for which those who passed Intermediate were eligible to apply.

“Our studios with modern infrastructure will be leased out to interested parties. Producers of television programmes and documentary makers are evincing interest in using our infrastructure,” he said.

Referring to the fee structure, Fr. Xaiver said the fee would be Rs. 30,000 a year for PG course, Rs. 15,000 a year for the diploma in television production and Rs. 25,000 a year for animation course.

“Acharya Nagarjuna University has to give affiliation to the PG course, which we are expecting in a couple of weeks. Once we get the affiliation, we will conduct the admissions,” he said.

Vice-principals Rex Angilo and Jayaraj, correspondent D. Showrayya and Dean (administration) G.M. Srirangam were present.
