Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD: A 400-page comprehensive hardbound book in English has been brought out with over 485 colour illustrations of the palaces of the Nizams not only at Hyderabad but also in Aurangabad, Kolkata, Delhi, Mumbai, Mahabaleswar, Ootacamund and Machilipatnam. It has been compiled by Prof. M.A. Nayeem, a historian-archaeologist and Urdu and Persian scholar. Titled “The Royal Palaces of the Nizams”, the book published in royal mart art paper, was released by Tourism Minister J. Geetha Reddy here on Wednesday. The Minister complimented the 72-year-old professor for devoting four decades to research and publishing a series of books, providing rare insights into Hyderabad’s yore. M. A. Qaiyum, a former State Archaeology deputy director, and P. Anuradha Reddy, a photographer-historian, narrated the pains taken by the professor during his research.

Backed by photographs, maps, plans and drawings, the book gives an account of Khilwat Mubarakh-Chau Mahalla, Purani Haveli, Falaknuma, King Kothi, Mahabub Mansion, Zeba Bagh and Moti Mahal-Nau Mahal palaces in Hyderabad and elsewhere.
