SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah said on Wednesday that his government would not give licence to any force to use unwarranted force. He reiterated the government’s policy of deputing magistrates while the police and paramilitary forces were on law and order duty. “Hartals will not dent me or my government’s working; it is only going to hut the poor man. If those who pursue this hartal philosophy want to punish me, they should come up with some other method. If I am at fault they should not punish the poor man, whose living is dependent on the daily earnings he makes,” he said. Mr. Abdullah, who chaired a meeting of the Unified Headquarters here, said that before resorting to protests, the people of Baramulla should have investigated the matter and seen that in what circumstances the person whose wife made the allegation was behind the bars. He appealed to people not to fall prey to appeals of strikes as these would yield nothing.
