Councillors urged to contribute

Staff Reporter

NEW DELHI: To make library services available in all municipal wards, Delhi Mayor Kanwar Sain has suggested that all municipal councillors contribute to the Delhi Public Library by authorising purchase of a Maruti van each from their area development fund. These vans could then be used as mobile libraries for all the wards of the civic body.

“It has been found that the Delhi Public Library branches are not spread across the city and resultantly a large number of people in the city cannot benefit from the service, especially those residing in resettlement colonies, rural areas, unauthorised regularised colonies and other uncovered areas. Many old people are also unable to travel the distance and hence cannot access the library facility,” he said. The Mayor has requested all municipal councillors to send their consent within five working days.
