Amman: After having won nine times out of the previous fourteen BFAME Championships in the past, the Indian Women’s team bowed out and are not in the finals of the 15th BFAME Championship being played here. While title holder Jordan blitzkrieged the opposition during the league rounds with a tally of 293 victory points, Pakistan nosed out India for a spot in the finals by the narrow margin of 6.5 VPs. The Open team (Kiran Nadar, Subhash Gupta, Rajesh Dalal, K.R. Venkataraman, Bachiraju Satyanarayana and Sunit Chokshi) has risen to its true potential and is now leading the field with a tally of 284.5 VPs. 15 VPs behind is Pakistan. With three more rounds to go for the four semifinal berths, both the teams look certain to qualify. There is a strong competition going on among Syria, Kuwait, Jordan, Bangla Desh and Sri Lanka for the two other berths. The Indian Open team has won the Zakariah Adamjee Trophy five times in the past. — R. Jayaram
