JK Tyre National racing this weekend

Coimbatore: The third round of the 12th JK Tyre National racing championship will be held at the Kari Motor Speedway in Chettipalayam, near here, this weekend.

It is an open contest between Sarosh Hataria of Amaron Pro Racing with Meco and Ashwin Sundar of Team NK Racing in the premium class, the Formula Rolon.

The former currently heads the table with 19 points, while the latter is two points short at second place.

Last’s year champion Gaurav Dalal of Team Red Rooster and independent entrant Saran Vikram are not far behind with 16 points apiece.

Ajay Kini, Diljith, Saahil Shelar and Shankar Narayanan are the other promising youngsters keen to give the more experienced drivers a run for their money.

Red Rooster is sitting pretty at the top of the team championship table with 46 points followed by Team Amaron Pro Racing with Meco and NK Racing with 21 and 17 points respectively.

Sudarshana leads

Team TVS Girling’s Sudarshana Rao, with 36 points, looks comfortably placed at the top in the Formula LGB Swift class. Prithveen Rajan of Wallace Sports is hot on his heels with 32 points.

Sudanand Rajan of Wallace Sports, with 18 points, is firmly on top in the Formula Hyundai category. Akhil Devarag and S. Narendran from Team Rams Racing, with 14 and 13 points respectively, are both confident of catching up with the leader.

The qualifying sessions, the opening race of the Formula LGB Swift and the Formula Rolon, the Formula LGB Hyundai endurance race and one race each of the super bikes and the Super Saloon class categories will be held on Saturday. The remaining races are scheduled for Sunday.

Josa, Lavan shine

A fine knock of 117 by Josa and a good spell by Lavan (seven for 72) enabled Sunil Cricket Club score a comfortable 158-run win over Rajagopalan Cricket Club in the TNCA-SDCA second division league at the Little Flower HSS grounds at Salem.

The scores:

First division: Devaram CC 228 for nine in 45 overs (Mani 58, S. Arun three for 19) bt Rock CC 136 in 45 overs (Vijaybhaskar three for 19).

Second division:

Sunil CC 278 in 45 overs (Josa 117, Raja 48 not out, R. Kumar three for 34, S. Prem Kumar three for 36) bt Rajagopalan CC 120 in 45 overs (Lavan seven for 32).

Third division: Eagles Eye 185 in 45 overs (S. Vivekananthan 60, M. Deepan Chakrawarthi 53, S. Saravanan four for 20) lost to Free Birds CC 186 for eight in 43.1 overs (K. Asrat Khan three for 47).

Rockfort CC 91 in 45 overs (R. Kathiravan five for 15) bt SCC 90 in 45 overs (R. Sivasubramaniam five for 20).

Vadivel scalps five

At Tirupur, Vadivel’s five-wicket haul went in vain as Stunners Cricket Club went down by 17 runs to GIO Sports Club in the TNCA-DCAT second division league recently.

The scores:

First division: Lucky Young Star CC 122 (S. Kaarthi 41, Nachimuthu three for 18, Arokiyaraj three for 11) lost to Charans CC (Dharapuram) 123 for eight (Abdulla 30, Kumaraguru three for 26, Saveen Prakash two for 28).

Second division: GIO Sports Club 171 (Bhupinder 38, Gagan Singh 31, Vadivel five for 19) bt Stunners CC 154 (Viswanathan 32, Thangaraj 29, Gagan Singh three for 32). — Sports Reporter
