PANAJI: Goa’s healthcare sector is set for a major expansion and upgradation with the involvement of private players. Minister for Health Vishwajit Rane told The Hindu here that he had appointed PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) as consultants to work out a public-private partnership module for developing Goa’s health services and hospital infrastructure over the next 10 years. Infrastructure consultants IDFC is working with the State Health Services in this sector. He spoke of how “procedural problems and systemic delays” in the Government are hampering his plans to upgrade the State’s public hospitals. “These delays and systemic deficiencies in the Government is a big problem. There is a need for a change in the mindset of the bureaucracy to understand that healthcare infrastructure development is not on par with other government projects and construction of buildings for them,” said Mr. Rane, who has formed a Healthcare Corporation to serve as a special purpose vehicle for his public-private partnership plans.
