More people voted for BJP, says Dattatreya

Staff Reporter

Party executive committee meet to come out with action plan to win people’s confidence

Kakinada: BJP State president Bandaru Dattatreya said his party could garner a higher percentage of votes in the 2009 elections in Andhra Pradesh though victory eluded it in all but two Assembly constituencies.

The results were certainly disappointing for the party, which was at the same time happy that its foundation remained intact and more people voted for it compared to previous elections.

The foremost reason for BJP’s failure both at national and state levels was its branding by Congress and Left parties as a communal party and misinterpretation of Hindutva, which was one of its main poll planks.

Addressing media persons here on Tuesday, Mr. Dattatreya said the party was making a retrospective assessment of its performance and trying to tie the loose ends so that it could fare well in the future.

More importance was being given to youth and women in order to reinvigorate the party.

The BJP would in its State office-bearers and State executive committee meetings to be held at Hyderabad and Nizamabad on July 3 and July 4 – 5 respectively discuss the entire gamut of issues and come up with a plan of action aimed at winning the people’s confidence.

BJP district convener M Malakondaiah and others were present.
