Shajahan and Sivakumar star for Cosmo Village

Coimbatore: A fine knock of 94 by Shajahan and a five-wicket haul by Sivakumar enabled Cosmo Village Sports Academy score a 138-run win over RKS Cricket Academy in the TNCA-CDCA first division league for the Pricol Trophy at the PSGIMSR grounds here.

The scores: First division: Cosmo Village SA 247 for nine in 50 overs (Shajahan 94) bt RKS Cricket Academy 109 in 28.3 overs (Sivakumar five for 34, Streejan three for 30).

Second division: Tirupur CC 202 in 40.3 overs (Sadiq Al Ameen 74, Mohan Sankar four for 54) bt Best VP XI 144 in 33.4 overs.

Third division: R.S. Puram CC 309 for five in 50 overs (Gunaseelan 134, Jaikumar 51, Karthikeyan 42) bt Senthil Srinivasan MCC 159 in 40 overs; Coimbatore Raiders CA (H.S. Kumaresh 67, Nagaraj 56 not out) bt Vivekananda Seva Trust 77 in 26.4 overs (Surendar four for 7).

Silver jubilee volleyball

Christ the King Polytechnic College, Othakkalmandapam, as part of its silver jubilee celebrations will conduct the Bishop Thomas Aquinas inter-District volleyball tournament for boys from schools, polytechnic colleges and industrial training institutes at its campus from July 29 to 31.

Entries must reach the Principal, Christ the King Polytechnic College, Othakkalmandapam, Coimbatore-32 (ph: 0422-2610 177, 99409 00696) on or before July 15.

Suresh, Zubair prevail

At Udhagamandalam, P. Suresh, with 35 points, clinched the season’s opener, the G.R. Varadarajulu Memorial Trophy tournament, played on a Stableford format, at the Ootacamund Gymkhana Club recently.

It was a close contest between Zubair Sait and N. Ramachandran in the 17-30 handicap category. The former, with a better second half, managed to get the better of the latter for the title.

N. Soundararajan emerged the gross winner with 23 points, while R. Shyam Sunder, with 22 points, had to rest content for the second spot.

The results (0-16 stableford) G.R. Varadarajulu Memorial Trophy: Nett: 1. P. Suresh 35 pts; 2. Ajay Alagar 34. Gross: 1. N. Soundararajan 23 pts; 2. R. Shyam Sunder 22.

G.R. Govindarajulu Memorial Trophy (17-30): 1. Zubair Sait 34 pts (better second half); 2. N. Ramachandran 34.

Selection trials

Trials to select the under-19 Nilgiris team for the inter-District cricket tournament will be held at the Riverside Public School grounds on July 5 at 9.30 a.m.

VDCA trials

The Vellore District Cricket Association would conduct trials for the under-14 and 19 teams at the Thanthai Periyar E.V.R. Government Polytechnic grounds, Vellore, at 9 a.m. on July 4.

Boys born on or after Sept. 1, 1995, are eligible for the u-14 event and those born on or after Sept. 1, 1990, for the u-19 section, according to a release from S. Sridharan, honorary joint secretary of the association.
