Mayawati blames BJP, Congress

Atiq Khan

LUCKNOW: Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Mayawati on Tuesday blamed the Bharatiya Janata Party and its allies, as well as the Congress for the Babri Masjid demolition. .

Referring to the mosque as a “disputed structure,” she said at a press conference: “A Congress government was in power at the Centre when the incident occurred. The Liberhan Commission’s report must have mentioned the role of the Congress, along with that of the BJP, in the incident.”

Ms. Mayawati accused the Congress government in 1992 of ignoring the reports of intelligence agencies and other sources that warned that the “disputed structure” would be demolished by communal forces.
