HYDERABAD: Controversy erupted once again over alleged campaign by a group persuading people to follow a particular religion on Gandhi Hospital campus on Tuesday. Activists of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), who went to the hospital to stage a demonstration against ‘religion conversion campaign’ on the hospital premises that came to light three days ago, caught two persons distributing pamphlets. The VHP leaders claimed that they detained the duo — Leela Kumar and Yadagiri – who were seen persuading people to change their religion. “We seized religion-related books and pamphlets from the duo,” they maintained. They handed over the detained persons to the Chilakalguda police and lodged a complaint. Memo submittedLater, they went in a procession to the offices of GMC principal, Pradeep Deshpande, and Gandhi Hospital Superintendent, Bala Nageshwari. They submitted memoranda to the two officials urging them not to allow religious campaign on the hospital campus and initiate legal action against persons indulging in such activities. ‘No pamphlets found’However, the Gopalapuram ACP, Y.V. Ramana, maintained that no pamphlets were recovered from the two persons. “There are no provisions to register case against the detained duo. We are mulling over it and sought the public prosecutor’s opinion,” he said.
